Want to use PamFax with Skype to receive Skype Chat messages? Make sure that PamFax is allowed to communicate with Skype. After installation, you need to allow PamFax access your Skype application. Skype will tell you, but sometimes this message is missed and then PamFax can not communicate with Skype.

To fix this just restart PamFax and see if you are presented with a yellow notification window (depending on your Skype view settings this may be a separate window or visible above your Skype contact list). It is from Skype asking if you will allow PamFax to access your Skype. Click on "Yes". If you do not see this notification, follow the steps below to check the access settings.

Note below workflow is based on Skype for Windows only. There are other articles for users on Skype for Macintosh.

Follow these steps:

1. Open Skype and click on menu Tools, Options.
Click on „Advanced“ and then „Advanced settings“.

Skype options

2. At the bottom of this page click on "Manage other programs' access to Skype".

3. A window will open that looks like the one below. It should show an entry called "FAX.EXE" but also may contain other programs. Click on PamFax and click the "Change" button.

 API access

4. You should see the window below. Select the top entry, this will allow PamFax to always communicate with Skype. Note that when there are PamFax updates, Skype may prompt you again when you start PamFax asking you to allow access again. In that case, also select the top option.

API access

After that PamFax should be able to connect to Skype.

Should that not work, you will need to try deleting the "fax.exe" application from the Skype list of external applications and let PamFax re-connect to Skype. The process is the same, however instead of "Change" you click "Remove" on the second screen shown in this article.
